Children go through key developmental stages as their minds take shape and as they begin their education journey. The Diploma in Teaching Young Learners aims to develop teachers’ knowledge and practical skills required to teach young learners effectively during these stages and to set children on course for their future schooling.
Be able to easily apply practical approaches and plans for young learner lessons within your classroom and prepare materials and ideas for specific activities. The course is based on teaching practice and lesson evaluation, and is overtly practical in content and approach.
This course is suitable for newly-qualified teachers who have zero or limited experience teaching young learners and for more experienced teachers who wish to update their skills and specialise in teaching children.
Be able to transfer and apply awareness of language and knowledge of the description of English from an adult learner context to a young learner context.
Develop an initial understanding of the contexts in which young learners acquire English, learners’ motivations and the roles of teachers and of learners.
Manage to transfer, adapt and apply the principles of effective teaching from an adult to a young learner context.
Gain an initial awareness of appropriate resources and materials for use with young learners for teaching, for testing and for reference.

Submission of assignments will result in achievement of the Diploma in Teaching Young Learners. This includes continuous assessment of practical ability as well as written assignments and quizzes.

You will still have access to a tutor should you have any questions.
